Amazing jambalaya, amazingly priced @ 17 bones. My wife enjoyed her crawfish and spinach omelette, but the opportunistic pricing any glee out of the process. Still and all, it's a nice little place and outpaces Stan's for cajun touches, even if it's a little too upmarket for our tastes--if not our pocketbook, too.

There's so much here to call diners to attention, and as we found last night, there's so much to recommend. I'll be short with it: spaciousness, graciousness, and an open disregard for the perils of being too prosaic or too precious with the menu. In other words, the place exudes a kind of category-defying confidence I don't see too often in Brooklyn, and far less so in Manhattan. Everything tasted and drank winningly.

The beers--or rather their prices--are overripe, even if this abbey is a piece of East Village solace. I'll try it again, but beyond the colourful, fast-talking and witty staff, there was nothing doing there last night.

Plain great. A wonderful setting--indoor and out--complemented by a smart and electic menu, nestled in a quiet residential strip of a thriving Fort Greene. Permeated by a vibrant community feel.

This is probably the hood's best Thai. I rarely have a quibble or really take note of staff, but I've had a number of disappointing experiences with Em's. That said, the food delivers--and Em delivers--so we've worked out a mutually satisfactory detente.

The lunch deal remains decent, but our area is littered with Thai and the menu is weak and the food not much better. It's not a disaster by any means, but there are alternatives.

In the ~100 reviews I've posted, I've accorded five-star treatment sparingly. Here's a deserving candidate. Start with the vegetarian curry pie and work your way through the DUB oeuvre from there. I am. At $5 a pop, it rates as pricey for the size but in oenophile terms, the QPR is sensational. And I don't hail from a meat pie native clime such as Oceania, either.

Fabulous burger and one of the great straightahead lunch places on the UWS. I used to live a half block from it so I'm biased, and the prices rose precipitously in the days I frequented it most, but it's still a great place and you can rely on its grocery-calibre freshness.

One of the finest hamburgers I've ever had, and at $7 for the platter it's a fantastic value. I don't care what else is on the menu, or not: the lunch special burger is the way to go. While you wait, read or bask in the rays through the plate-glass windows.
