I'll keep going back to Rebar... here's why:
Kick-ass amaretto sours. Quiet (great place to have a conversation with friends or just write/read-- yes, I read in bars!). Beautiful decor and atmosphere. Friendly bartenders. Enough said.

It was ok.  Definitely a weird crowd on the weekend...looked more like out of towners or suburbanites or something.  Good beer list, but rather expensive for what it was--it was a cool space and a good stop in the evening, but I doubt I'd seek it out again.

I'm a fan of this place. it's tucked away from the mainstream of coffee shops and bars. the interior is ok too. The reason they only get 3 stars is because as i sit here and write this review i am attempting to choke down this "sangria" that ive been served. Seriously. If you feel like paying 18 dollars for some chilled red wine with apples and ice in it this is the place to be.

An easy 5 stars! Rebar is jut an incredibly sweet place. It's a vast two room space in a warehousey type of building which, as I learned from the venue, was once a ferry depot when servicing ferries was DUMBO's main purpose prior to the Bklyn Bridge being built. The decor is minimal but charming, keeping the open, airy lightness of the space in full focus.

As I waited for my new friend to arrive for a chat (this is a great spot to meet up for a casual convo, BTW), an extremely friendly and drop dead gorgeous bartender described several of their 15 tap beer offerings to me in scintillating detail. Wanting something light, I settled on a pint of liquid gold, which was just lovely. Yes, this stunningly hot girl and her vividly detailed knowledge of beer contributes to my affection for this place.

I poked around a bit and discovered a back room with a pool table, internet juke box, comfy couches, and 2 flat screen TVs. They got wireless 'net in their too (the hot girl told me).

The menu looked pretty interesting too, so I'll have to go back and update this 'ere posting after sampling a bit of their fare. Definitely go here though, this place is sick.

For my first trip to DUMBO, after a day at a networking event nearby, I'd have to say the place is big and offers up a lot of room. The drinks were good (and strong) but the bartenders were not too thrilled to have a big group of people there after a networking event with open bar for most of the evening. If I'm back in the neighborhood I'd take friends there, but not worth the trip just for the bar.

A huge, interesting space with great decor. If it weren't so out of the way, I'd definitely be here a lot more. I've only been here once. Will it deliver again? I hope so.

A cluster of funky couches in the corner can be pushed around depending on how many people you are. Great for groups -- it's like a bigger, funkier version of a living room with better music and a huge beer list.

reBar is a great after work place to catch a few before moving on home, or perhaps another spot. The space itself is really cool--there is a coffee bar downstairs, and on the floor with the bar are some studio spaces, the front sometimes is used for local artisans to sell their creations, and in a room off the bar they set up a pool table. Red felt.

There is a great beer selection on draught--my favorite being the Radeberger. Also, they serve champagne, but only one kind. Brut. BUt it's good and the bartenders usually know to pour me a glass when they see me walk up to the bar. The wine list is pretty awesome too.

The drawbacks to this place are that it is pretty pricey and the service is so SLOW. I really like the bartenders, but they really need to speed it up in there, especially when the after-work crowd hits. Also, they sometimes play music so slow and mopey that you have to go and ask them to play something more upbeat and appropriate for the happy hour mood. They serve food here too, but it is not that great.

This is such a beautiful space.  The happy hour specials are good, but the atmosphere is just amazing!  I will definitely be back!

This is the only bar I have ever given 5 stars to and I was only there for one beer!  The space is great, nice, big, open and when we were there (Tues night) around 7ish....the tunes were kicking (some kinda upbeat house).  I can't wait to go back - might not love it if it's super packed but no reason not to try!  I can't recall the beer I had but the selection is the best I've seen in any bar in Brooklyn.

this was my first visit to brooklyn for the nightlife, and i must say it wasn't bad!

Rebar is HUGE.  There's a lot of room - a HUGE bar area - tables and tables, a lounge area with a pool table and tv's, couches, and a juke box for private parties, and another area next to the bar with couches and tables -  just so much SPACE.

Random artists' works were on the walls, which added something..um..unique to the atmosphere.  (art is relative..i'll leave it at that)

I liked this spot - minus 1 star for the fact that they played electronica music all night and no one danced at all...even though there was so much room!!

also - i probably won't come back b/c it is, after all, in brooklyn. haha...and the area outside was kind of sketchy - its really close to the F train station though so that was nice.

Very cool spot! Brought date here to meet up with my friends. Granted it's a little out of the way, but a really neat spot. It looks like you basically invaded someone's loft filled with comfy couches and dim lighting. Plus, anywhere that offers Westmalle Triple is a-ok in my book! having just returned from a two week stint in Belgium, I am most definitely still on a big beer trip. And having some awesome beer, well, you rock. Even though it was 3 euro in Belgium and $11 there...I guess the exchange rate really kills, eh?

The bathroom trip is an interesting one, you suddenly end up inside a shopping mall of some sort? Brooklyn is weerd.

Okay, Yelpers, I can't believe you all have missed this one thus far!  Afterall, it is TONY's 2007 Winner of New Bar of the Year! Come ON!

This is a fantastic bar, especially for Happy Hour and getting the evening started.  The beer selection is spectacular, the wines are fantastic, the snacks, noshes, tapas, salads and nibbles are very good.  The vibe is relaxed yet soothing, cool and oh so genu-ine!  Their house jazz band is truly terrific.  Did I say the wines are fantastic? Even by the glass... if you like a powerful red, try the Domaine des Perrieres Syrah and you'll heart me.

Check out the website, you'll hear the band, cruise the menus and drinks and git yourself running out to DUMBO for some reBar.  I know, I know, it's far.... but, trust me, you'll have a great start to your evening if you go here, hit Superfine for some pool and rowdiness, and then see where the night takes you. And if that doesn't convince you, how about their tagline: "A Shrine to the Art of Drinking".  It is. Truly.  If you enjoy a luscious bar and lounge experience in a cool and great neighborhood then hit it. If you want to get shit-faced and don't care what you drink cause you don't even taste it going down, well, then I guess you should skip this one afterall.  But there's another place for that just around the corner. :-)

Four stars after work early in the week.  One star on weekend nights.  My god, this place had the most annoying crowd ever!  Kindof seemed like a lot of financial district workers that maybe had a bit of money but had no idea what they were doing and didn't know how to dress themselves.  We sat there basically mocking everyone.

The beer selection is really damn good though.

Actually, (unlike the other review), I really liked this place.  A couple of my fellow employees and I met up there for a few drinks.  When I first arrived I thought the place was very roomy, but a little dull (although it was a Sunday night).  As the night progressed it gradually got better.  The bartender was excellent and he gave out many free drinks.  It might have not been the most hip place but the hospitality was great.  The only thing I found annoying was the lame music. Change that and it would be a cool place to have a beer after work.

rebar's cool for afterwork especially (exclusively?) but they really need to shapen up what their going for music and vibe wise. no unity whatsover. maybe part of that is a function of the space having a lot of different identities going on, but it's got a lot of potential.

their pool table sucks tho and I think only one cue had a damn tip on it. step your game up rebar.

Went back here after a couple of slightly negative experiences and had a great time. It was only my third time there, so I guess three times a charm. The place really has a great beer selection. This place is hoppin'... Check it out.

I wouldn't be surprised if this place hits the deathwatch, my experience was substandard to say the least. Sat across from the bar, and waited at least 10 minutes to get a drink. Average selection of Belgians. Took way too long for a refill.
Ordered some tapas. of the 8 dishes, the carpaccio was OK. Nothing else was memorable.
The place was empty, the room was beautiful, the location - fantastic.
The service was awful. I guess if you sat at the bar it might be OK. I'd hate to see the place busy.
Oh yeah, it was a Friday night. there was the one bartender and a kitchen guy. On a Friday. 2 staff.
Nice.

Chill bar with a great tapas and beer. I love taking friends here because it's hidden up in an old warehouse and there is tons of room to hang out and talk. They also just started a trivia night i want to go, mainly because they will be giving away a trip to Belgium  at the end of the summer!

I'm actually not too sure if I was in Rebar or Retreat.  I definitely bought a few rounds of beers from Rebar but I went outside onto the couches, which may have been Retreat proper.  Whatever, the beer selection was nice, and I appreciated that they give each kind of beer its own labelled glass, just as the Belgian brewer would have it.  A big spacious place to watch the the young, the restless, the tragically hip saunter about looking bored.

As a new DUMBO resident, I am so grateful to have this place nearby. The space is incredible, you can go to the coffee box to grab an espresso, sit in the livingroom and surf the web on the provided WiFi, go to the bar for an excellent selection of beer, wine & food, or you can show up for the events, such as the nude body drawing on Friday night, or the aforementioned jazz band.

Its an interesting crowd of the creative minded, and a welcome retreat from the overly-touristed haunts in soho, nolita and the village, but with the same hip, relaxed vibe. Its a public space in the true sense of the word.

i went here for a birthday party, and i must admit, my expectations were pretty low.  i was prepared for an over-priced, pretentious, we' ll-keep-people-waiting-on-line-outside-even -though-there's-no-one-inside kinda place, and i was happy to be wrong.  the space is refreshingly big (i guess i'd hope it would be, given all the lofts in dumbo), the decor is pleasantly understated, and the staff were all very friendly.  my drinks were also cheaper than i'd expected: $6 for a well drink, which is a buck more than most brooklyn bars but still less than what i'd prepared myself for.  all in all i liked rebar and don't really have anything negative to say about it, but at the same time, there was nothing particularly standout about it either so i don't see myself going out of my way to go there.  but if i was in the neighborhood already then i'd be happy to.  i actually give it 3.5 stars, but am yet again forced to round to a whole number.
